PD or not PD ?

The PD+ unit from TDI-TuningBox is suitable for the 1.9tdi "Pumpe Düse" (PD) engines produced by the VW-AUDI group between the year 2000 and 2004.

If you are not sure whether or not you vehicle has the "PD" type engine or the earlier "Variable Pump" (VP) type engine, the pictures below illustrate the difference between the two. 

Pumpe Düse Engine (PD)

The picture above shows the "PD" type engine for which the PD+ unit from   TDI-TuningBox is suited. There is a circular connector at the end of the cylinder block and a slave pump mounted as part of the engine. No fuel injector lines are visible from the pump. On models such as the Audi A4 and VW Passat the engine is mounted at 90 degrees to the one show above. The circular connector and slave pump can be found to the rear of the engine bay on such models. 

Variable Pump (VP)

The picture above shows the VP type 1.9TDI engine fitted to earlier models, the fuel pump is separate from the engine and the fuel injector lines from the pump are clearly visible. The PD+ unit from TDI-TuningBox is NOT suitable for use with this engine. You will require a VP series tuning box which either has 8 or 10 pins on the connector to the fuel pump.
